so my mom saw coinbase app on my phone and started asking questions. told her i have like 500 bucks in bitcoin and now shes acting like i joined a cult or something. keeps sending me articles about people losing their life savings and wants me to "cash out before its too late"

anyone else deal with boomer parents who think crypto is evil?

Mt Gox was over 10 years ago. Security way better now, but older generation remembers the horror stories

Must say yur mom's concerns aren't entirely unfounded. Crypto does have risks:

- Exchange hacks (though rare now)
- User error (lost keys, scams)
- Volatility
- Regulatory uncertainty

But with proper education and security practices, $500 investment is reasonable risk for someone your age
